Zoom Schooling, Virtual Events, Virtual Games, Online Stores, Digital Payments, Voice Interactions, Social Selling; Does Internet has ever been more relevant to us?

From the famous, ‘’Internet is a fad’’ debate in 1995 to today, the evolution of the world wide web and the internet has been phenomenal. If one wants to be relevant in today’s world, access to the internet is one of the best options available.

I still remember the days I used to pay 15 rupees ($ 0.20) for an hour to be on the world wide web. And it is cheaper now than ever. India is the country with the most economical mobile data rate ($0.09) for 1 GB. Isn’t that awesome?

The pandemic made us rely on what works and what is doable in today’s world. The bright side of the pandemic is that we all are accustomed to the new normal now. The new normal where the kids are attending their classes online, the employees are attending their work at home, businesses are accelerating their e-commerce services, and doctors are rushing to social media to consult and communicate with their patients.

The level of comfort today’s consumer internet is bringing to humans around the world is unprecedented. And I think it is safe to say that there is not a single alternate resource that has the potential to match today’s consumer internet apart from our basic needs.

We want to stay connected with our families. We want to amass knowledge. We want to gain exposure to things around us. We have to be relevant in our jobs and amplify our livelihood. To do all that, having internet access is a basic necessity today.

Over 59% of the global population is using the internet daily, and it can only increase in the coming years. Let’s think of simple math here. There is no other resource that gives you access to the 4.5 billion (4,50,00,00,000) people on the planet.

And we all need people to help us in our everyday lives. So, the thought that there is so much noise, and mess, online is no longer relevant. And good news, there is so much good that is available on the internet.

If I can be more specific, for our children to attend their schooling, for the students to study, for a housewife to talk to her family, for an employee to stay the course, for a business to promote their products, for governments to enlighten their people, we need access to the internet, and that to me is fascinating.

When did we last had a tool that has done it all?

Apart from the truth that the Internet is pleasing everyone across the globe, the concerning factor is the accessibility we all have to the negative side of it at our fingertips. Along with resources that can help you stay informed, there is a lot of misinformation, potential threats, and wrong guidance out there too.

And we have to understand that our next generation will face the repercussions due to the miscommunication that can happen at scale on this phenomenal platform.

We must make all the good in the world shine bright on this platform called ‘’The Internet’’, and help others focus on the good and do well with their lives.

What we do on the internet today can potentially make a difference to the next generation.
